ST KILDA Fishing Club enjoyed it’s biggest ever kids’ fishing day on Sunday, with more than 100 youngsters wielding the rod and reel at the Dumaresq Dam.
Fishing club president Brett Burton said the event, held annually for more than 10 years, was a ‘big success’.
“We had something like 135 kids enter the competition and it was by far our biggest day,” he said.
“The weather was pretty good – cold but good – and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”
The biggest fish caught on the day was a 65cm long trout, which was reeled in by youngster Hugh Ord.
It was no surprise he won the boys’ category in the U7s division.
Holly Porter was girls’ winner in the U7s, while Kieran Davies took out the boys’ 8-12 years prize.
His brother Jake Davies landed another big trout to win the 13-18 boys’ prize.
Fishing kicked off at 10am and went for three hours before presentations.
The St Kilda Fishing Club’s major raffle was also drawn, with Bob Rich taking home the kayak.
