Cross country stays on track

06 Jul, 2009 10:22 AM
Week Eight of the cross country season saw 46 runners compete in the 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km runs.

In the 5km run Keith McPherson was first home in a time of 16 minutes and 44 seconds followed by Campbell Jones and Jessie Percival.

First home in the 2.5km run was Matthew Fahey in a time of 8 minutes and 19 seconds followed by Naran Singh and Winona Rumble.

The 1.5km run was won by Byron Smith in a time of 5 minutes and 16 seconds followed by Ben Farrell and Kas Gregory.

First woman home was Jess Sauer followed by Pauline Smith.

The conditions were a little slippery underfoot but now that the days are getting longer again the light conditions will improve significantly and more runners may attempt the longer runs but each week it is up to the runner themselves to decide what distance they want to run which makes it more fun for the runners.

The runs are held each Wednesday at Moran Oval at 4:30pm and anyone is welcome to join.

This weekend quite a few runners will be travelling to the Gold Coast for the prestigious Gold Coast Airport Marathon series.

There are people coming from all over the country and overseas to compete in these events so we wish them all the best of luck and a full report will be in next week's edition of their performances.
