CYCLIST Colin Maciver was named Armidale’s senior sports star of the year last night.
The 2AD/FM 100.3 Armidale Sports Awards, now into their ninth year, once again recognised both junior and senior and individual and team achievements at the Ex-Services Club.
Maciver beat a number of worthy contenders to take top honours.
He was recognised for his victory in the NSW Masters hill climb, as well as winning the State road race and criterium titles on his way to being named national champion of champions after taking out the road race.
He also came second in the criterium and third in the time trial at national level, before returning from the World Masters Games in Sydney last month with two bronze medals.
It was a good night for local cyclists, with Mitch Bullen taking out the FM 100.3 junior sports star of the year award.
Bullen was selected to represent Australia at the Youth Olympics where he won a medal, and also competed at the Oceania Games in New Zealand recently.

The team of six - Kleo Charmas, Deborah McMahon, Greg Blanch, Ray Enks, Shane Rhodes and Peter Wright - returned from the State titles with 17 medals between them.
Three members of the team - Blanch, McMahon and Charmas - were selected in the NSW team to contest the national titles in Adelaide early next year.
Achievements off the field were also recognised with four contribution to sport awards.
Mark Creagan’s award came after 28 years of work for local rugby union, while Tony Ward’s 35-year involvement in the Norths United football club was also recognised.
Ward still occasionally turns out for the Redmen’s Premier League side.
