In a great afternoon of riding, Armidale Cycle Club conducted racing to decide the club’s junior champions for 2009, at the criterium course at the old Driver Education Centre on Mann Street.
There were three divisions for the male riders, and one division for the female riders.
In the male division there were riders who were under 12 years, the next division went from 12 to under 15 years, and the oldest juniors went from 15 to 17 years.
The championship was decided on a point score basis, over three separate races, with each division competing separately to the other divisions. The first race was a time trial event, followed by a scratch race, and then the final event was a criterium.
In the under 17 division the club junior champion is Brent Weston (30 points), followed by Angus Swan (23 points), Chris Jones (21 points), and Ben Castle (18 points).
The under 15 club junior champion is Kyle O’Hara (28 points), followed by Gill Burgess (26 points), Sam Jenner (21 points), Adam Burke (18 points), Ben Sullivan (15 points), and James Murray (12 points).
The under 12 club junior champion is Jack Parker (30 points), followed by Reece Burton (24 points), Lachy Harris (21 points), and Kieran Sullivan (18 points).
The junior female club champion is Britt Sisson who scored 30 points.
All the members of the club congratulate the competitors in the junior championships.
The senior members of the club competed in a 30 kilometre graded scratch race which was held on the Long Swamp Road.
The A grade race was won by Mitch Sozou, ahead of Cody Burton and John Scott-Hamilton.
In B grade it was a two man affair, with Bob Murison finishing ahead of Dave Rubie.
The Long Swamp course took its toll on the rest of the B grade field, with nobody else completing the full 30 kilometres.
A reminder to everybody planning to attend the club’s Christmas Party and presentation, you must inform Ray Phillips as it is being held and catered for at the Bowling Club. Ray’s number is 0414 713-883.
