Woman charged over assault on police

A WOMAN has been charged following an incident where two police were assaulted at Inverell on Saturday evening.

About 5.50, police responded to reports of a woman who had received lacerations as a result of a broken window.

On their arrival, the officers were met with a female who allegedly began to assault them. Family members then allegedly began to assault the police.

Eight other police officers arrived at the scene to subdue the crowd. During the incident OC spray was deployed.

One officer sustained injuries that included swelling and bruising to the cheek and mouth areas and a bite mark to the arm. The second officer sustained swelling and bruising to the lower lip and face.

One of the officers was taken to Inverell District Hospital for treatment and was later released.

A 29-year-old Inverell woman was arrested at the scene and was taken to Armidale Police Station where she was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She was refused bail to appear before the Armidale Bail Court yesterday.
