THEY’RE off and fundraising as Armidale Can Assist heads straight to the lead in the race to raise money this Melbourne Cup.
Armidale and Uralla Can Assist are set for their biggest fundraiser of the year on November 3.
The Armidale group rallies every year to put on the Melbourne Cup luncheon and fashion parade which includes raffles, auctions, lucky door prizes and sweeps at the Wicklow Hotel during race day.
Armidale Can Assist president Carol Higginbottom said the event has previously raised about $10,000 for local cancer patients and the Jean Colvin Cancer Centre.
“Come along for a fun day out... raising funds for charity at the same time,” Carol said.
Armidale Can Assist has helped 21 local people in the past 12 months with expenses like transport, accommodation, household items, service bills and treatment costs not covered.
Armidale Can Assist events coordinator Kerrie Pearson said local businesses had got behind this year’s event with plenty of prizes up for grabs.
There is $1000 cash as a raffle prize and Tony Williams Machinery has sponsored a luxurious stay at the Peppers Hunter Valley Resort for the auction.
The day will include a Hanna’s fashion parade, two-course meal and festivities aplenty.
Tickets are available at Country Concepts, Invest Blue and from Kerrie directly on 6772-5057 or 0418 735-957.
