Nick Morris, Oliver Yarnold and Khai Townsend made the top 100 in maths, while Will Russell, BJ Magill, Cory Platford and Blake Briggs dominated in spelling.
The students pitted themselves against hundreds of others from schools across Australia and New Zealand in the annual event, which the online ‘Mathletics’ club organises during Literacy and Numeracy Week (August 31-September 6).
The online competition requires students to play a series of games which are designed to test speed and accuracy in spelling and arithmetic.
Targeted at students in years 3-10, the challenge is graded according to age and ability.
The Mathletics website said by creating games, they had made mathematics and spelling fun and appealing for students.
Star speller, Blake said he trained for the spelling competition after he finished soccer training.
“I did nothing but spell things for a night,” he said.
More than 200 Uralla Central students took part in the event.
“We are very proud of our excellent results - it shows how much talent we have here at the school,” maths teacher and organiser Glenn Pardy said.
