ARMIDALE residents are continuing to be pestered by various forms of a mail scam.
The Express has been informed of one scam in which a scam letter is still being addressed to an Armidale man – even through he passed away more than 12 months ago.
More than being just a nuisance, the letters are distressing for the man’s widow, a woman in her 70s.
A neighbour said the woman estimates she has received about 90 letters over the past year.
“As you can imagine, it’s very upsetting for her and it’s beginning to impact on her health,” he said.
The letters – from the Netherlands and Switzerland - are sent to the woman’s post office box rather than her street address.
“She has tried various sources to try and get the letters stopped, but without success,” the neighbour said.
Last week, The Express alerted readers to one scam that comes in the former of a letter – sent from The Netherlands – claiming that the recipient has won money in a contest.
To secure the prize, however, the ‘beneficiary’ had to return $60 ‘to cover a part of your costs’, plus another ‘modest sum’ of $5.
