Man faces court after car mows down ducks

28 Jan, 2012 11:12 AM
A man is facing court after allegedly driving into a group of ducks walking along an Armidale street earlier this week.

About 7pm on Australia Day an off-duty police officer saw the 18-year-old Armidale man driving a Nissan 300Z sedan along Beardy Street in Armidale.

It will be alleged the car crossed to the incorrect side of the road and hit four ducks walking along the road. Two of the ducks died at the scene and the other ducks flew away.

After inquiries by the officer attached to the Traffic Support Group, an 18-year-old Armidale man was spoken to by police yesterday.

The 18-year-old will appear in Armidale Local Court on March 26, 2012, after being issued a summons for:

  • Aggravated act of cruelty to an animal;

  • Negligent driving;

  • Not keeping left of the centre of the roadway;

  • Not complying with P1 license; and

  • having no P-plates on his car.

Hope it is not the same guy who ran down a blue tongue just as callously in Barclay

Avenue. Everyone stops for ducks in

Beardy Street, and everyone tries to avoid

a blue tongue. Just as well it wasn't an elderly person, or children. Young people that perpetrate cruelty on animals need

counselling.

Best thing about this is, being 18, he can be publically named.
