WOULD you like to get physical?

Curves Armidale is giving women across the region the chance to get physical and do it for a good cause as they prepare to hold a Girl’s Night In as a fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

The staff at Curves are busily planning a movie night and on the program for the evening’s viewing is Grease.

The movie night will be open to gym members and the public and everyone is invited to dress in their best Grease gear or as their favourite Olivia Newton-John character.

Newton-John has a strong connection with the international franchise and, as a cancer survivor, is keen to promote awareness.

This month Curves will be promoting their cancer awareness agenda by encouraging members to take care of their breast health and letting new members know that they can reduce their risk of breast cancer through regular exercise.

Members who join in between October 13 and 24 will also be given a free Olivia Aid, a device used to help women with self-examinations.

The Olivia Aids will also be available for purchase by current members and the public throughout the month.

Dr Ernie Bodai, a well-known breast cancer surgeon, is quick to endorse the Olivia Aid.

“Clearly, a significant number of breast cancers are found by the patient herself,” he said.

Bianca Lucas, owner of Curves Armidale, said many Curves members had had personal and family experience in dealing with breast cancer and that it was a cause very dear to many of the women who attend the gym.

“Curves has always been an advocate of breast cancer awareness, but now we’re taking it a step further and helping the women in our community exercise good breast health,” she said.

“We’re proud to be a part of a company whose goal is to put the Olivia Aid into a million women’s hands this October.”

The Girl’s Night In is on Friday, October 24 and will kick off at 6pm with pre-movie drinks, nibbles and an information session with a local doctor and women who have dealt with breast cancer in their past.

Tickets for the Girl’s Night In can be purchased from Curves, the Belgrave or The Armidale Express office.
