Driver suspects Countrylink train window cracked by vandals

08 Feb, 2010 08:16 AM
Police are investigating an apparent rock attack on a Countrylink Explorer train, travelling from Armidale to Sydney.

At about 2.30pm on Saturday, a large rock struck the front exterior windscreen of the passenger train as it moved under the Lawson Street overpass at Beresfield.

The outer glass shield of the driver’s window was extensively cracked but the rock did not penetrate the interior layer of glass.

The driver contacted Railcorp’s Broadmeadow Control Centre, which in turn alerted police from the Central Hunter Local Area Command.

He has told police he believes the rock was thrown by an unidentified person or persons standing on the overpass.
