A NEW board for the Armidale Chamber of Commerce is on the cards, with the annual general meeting set down for Thursday.
All positions on the board are up for re-election, and the chamber is looking to change ‘a few things’ this year to generate further interest in the organisation.
Chamber CEO Phil Flick (pictured) said the board could have a new look after the meeting.
“All positions on the board are relinquished and then re-applied for, and we are getting some pretty interesting nominations for the key positions,” he said.
“We have had nominations from some young and dynamic people.”
The last year has been a successful one for the chamber, increasing membership from 37 to more than 100.
Mr Flick puts that down to ‘getting out and about and seeing people’.
“You can’t just send people a letter and an invoice reminding them of the chamber,” he said.
“Having someone in the office all the time is also good.
“If you have an office manned you are going to have better results than if you have someone there on a part-time or casual basis.”
They also introduced some major sponsors, including The Express, which returned an increased cash flow.
“With that we were able to do some projects, and we are going out and about and soliciting input from our sponsors,” he said.
The chamber is also looking to continue its monthly business meetings and attract some interesting speakers.
“I think it’s pretty important to have a good cross-section of speakers at the meetings,” Mr Flick said.
“The next speaker we will have will be Phil Shields, the general manager at Straits Gold.
“They are going to be one of the world’s biggest suppliers of antimony.
“That’s interesting stuff and it also has a bit of a local flavour.”
