Campaign set to entice coastal visitors

08 Feb, 2010 09:31 AM
COFFS Coast residents and visitors are this month being invited to spend some time in Armidale and the greater New England.

The invitation comes as part of a Waterfall Way television marketing campaign, a partnership between Armidale Dumaresq Council, Bellingen Shire Council and Tourism Bellinger, with support from Tourism NSW.

A series of television commercials promoting the region will run in the Coffs Coast area throughout February, showcasing some of the scenery and attractions on the Waterfall Way.

Waterfall Way is a scenic drive that begins in Urunga and finishes in Armidale, taking in Bellingen, Dorrigo, Ebor and Wollomombi and passing some of Australia’s most breathtaking National Parks, including New England, Oxley Wild Rivers, Cathedral Rock, Guy Fawkes River and Dorrigo.

Armidale Dumaresq Council’s manager - economic development, tourism and marketing, Kevin Abey, said the drive has made the list of the Top 10 Australia’s Greatest Drives by domestic tourism magazine, Australian Traveller.

“Our simple campaign slogan - ‘Time Away? Go the Waterfall Way’ - will hopefully encourage people to visit the area and enjoy all the region has to offer,” he said.

The television commercials will direct people to a special website containing accommodation, retail and dining offers and there is also a special information number, 1800 448-290 for the campaign.

People can go online or call to see a broad range of accommodation, retail and dining deals, with almost 30 different operators taking part in the campaign.

Visitors can register their details to receive a free information pack containing the Armidale and Bellingen Tourism brochures and a discount card, allowing them to access all the special offers.

“Our aim is to encourage people who live in or are visiting the Coffs Coast region to drive the Waterfall Way and stay in Armidale for at least one night, do some shopping and dining out while they are here, then go home and tell their friends and family how wonderful our region is,” Mr Abey said.
