Bush band to re-unite after 33 year break

05 Jan, 2009 07:29 AM
At the end of 1975 a few young residents of Armidale and Uralla got together to form the Armidale Bush Band - a band devoted to Australian traditional music and using many traditional instruments including an old tea chest base and lager phone, as well as accordian and guitar.

Their musical genre has a significant Irish influence.

This band became well known in 1976 and played at numerous venues with regular gigs at pubs in both Uralla and Armidale.

It wound up at the end of that year when a number of the group had to leave the area for work reasons.

The repertoire included classic songs such as ‘Ryebuck Shearer’, ‘Lazy Harry’s’, ‘Botany Bay’ and ‘The Overlanders’ as well as the Irish influence in the form of Wild Rover, Black Velvet Band and more.

The band is having a reunion this week and original lead singer, Peter Faircloth, is flying in from England where he has been living for more than 20 years, to participate.

For one week he will be joined by other original members Ian Reeve and Rod Noble as they play at some hotspots across the area.

They are playing with friends at the Coachwood and Cedar Hotel in Uralla tomorrow from 7pm.

Other venues to be advised, for more information contact Mr Noble on 0407 205-307.
