Bosses to pay for their get out of jail card

04 Nov, 2009 10:54 AM
PCYC Armidale is giving the community a chance to get back at their bosses and raise funds for the club at the same time.

The PCYC is facilitating a ‘Lock up Your Boss’ day on Market Sunday, November 29, and a mock jail cell will be set up in the Mall.

Every boss who accepts the challenge will have an opportunity to raise a pre-nominated amount of money to pay their bail and gain their release.

The bail amounts will be raised slightly on the day to ensure the ‘inmates’ deserve their freedom, and people can make the job even harder by donating to keep a boss behind bars.

A number of local identities, including Armidale Dumaresq mayor Peter Ducat, have already been nominated and are preparing to be locked up for the cause.

Once the inmates are imprisoned they can only be released when their bail amount is met.

PCYC Armidale club manager Ange Collongues is calling on all local businesses to support the event.

Ange said $25,000 is the target for the fundraiser - which would pay for PCYC projects run through the year and enable the club to purchase new equipment.

People can contribute to an inmate’s bail directly or by emailing Ange at the PCYC on acollongues@pcycnsw.org.au.

PCY C youth case manager Senior Constable Paul Harmer said the club played an aimportant role in the Armidale community.

He said resources for the club were vital - and helped to keep local youth engaged and away from anti-social activity.

Local fitness guru Kamahl Barhoush of KAMS Health and Fitness has also agreed to be locked up.

He said he jumped at the opportunity to get involved - even though more than one or two people will be determined to keep him ‘inside’ after his training sessions.

“I love the chance to raise the PCYC’s profile and secure some much-needed funds for refurbishments,” he said.

Cr Ducat said he wouldn’t necessarily describe himself as looking forward to being locked up, but he is certainly ready to raise some funds for the PCYC.

If you think your boss needs to be put behind bars, contact the PCYC for a nomination form - incriminate your boss and tell the PCYC how much their great escape is worth.
