TOM Abbott grew up in Armidale and on Sunday he will return to the city - not as a boy just out of school as he was when he left town but as a young man now celebrated internationally as a jazz musician.
The TAS Old Boy has recently returned to Australia from the Royal Academy of Music in London. On a scholarship to this prestigious institution he has now moved even further up the ranks of ‘great’ jazz musicians.
His ‘once only show’ at the TAS Hoskins Centre on Sunday will feature Tom and his group ‘The Kinetic Ensemble’. All members of the group are talented musicians in their own right but together they produce an amazing sound.
Briana, vocals, was selected as one of six vocalists from throughout Australia to compete in the Generations in Jazz vocal competition. Eamon, trumpet, has toured Europe and America with the Australian All Star Big Band. Nick, piano, is a past winner of the Musicoz Awards. Brendan, bass, was selected as a finalist for the James Morrison Scholarship and Paul, drums, received the Buzz under 26 emerging Artist Grant from the Arts Council of Australia and with this funding has recorded his first full length all original album.
This is a not to be missed event with tickets available at the door. The concert will run from 3pm to 5.30.
